Ernesto Martinez

Ernesto Martinez Jr. He arrived in the US on the Cuban Freedom Flights at the age of 5 with his parents and grandmother who went into exile after the Cuban revolution.  Even though his family arrived in this country without knowing the language, jobs or money, they saw opportunity and the American dream.

His parents always emphasized education. He attended public schools and graduated from Miami Senior High with Honors.  He received the Henry King Stanford Academic Scholarship to attend the University of Miami.  While in college, he worked for the University’s Bursar while also working as an accountant in the family business.   He also was a founding member of the University of Miami Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity.  He graduated with honors with an accounting degree from the University of Miami.

He studied law at the Ivy League Columbia University in New York City.  While attending law school he worked as a security guard and interned with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and the New York City Law Department.

Ernesto became an attorney in 1987 and is a Certified Public Accountant with a Master in Taxation.
